EIV News Wins 2011 News Station of the Year

We are thrilled to announce that EIV News was awarded the 2011 News Station of the Year award by the Associated Press in addition to six other AP awards this year.  This is the second year in a row that EIV News has received the award, and it is the seventh AP award received this year.

This award recognizes a station’s overall news commitment and service to its coverage area.  We are so proud of all of our members and contributors who have helped us achieve our mission to produce outstanding news coverage while educating providing an opportuntiy for Emerson seudents to gain experience in journalism and news production.

EIV News Wins Six 2010 Associated Press Awards

EIV News and members of the news team received six Associated Press awards this year.  We are extremely honored to receive these awards and are very proud of our hard-working team who created outstanding content.  The awards are as follows:
  • Newscast for “EIV News Live @ 9:00 11/17/2010“ This episode is an example of the weekly half-hour live newscast in an effort to simulate local news. News director Kevin Cochran and Executive Producers Jordan Drutman and Josh Sackheim led the cast and crew of the flagship newscast.  This is the third consecutive year that EIV News has received this award.
  • Sports Videography for “The Heart of the Game“ EIV News Reporter Abbey Niezgoda shows how the installment of one small device can help save the lives of students both on and off the field.
  • Investigative Reporting for “Dining Dilema”  EIV News reporter Katie Eastman looks into the violations received by Emerson College food provider, Aramark. What steps has the school taken? Aramark employees speak out about the truth behind the violations.
  • Sports Program for “Boston Marathon Special” This half hour special production focused on many aspects of the 2010 Boston Marathon.  Hosted by Nick Coit and Abbey Niezgoda, the show featured two in-studio interviews and five special reports from EIV reporters Meghan Keane, Christine Ryan, Katie Eastman, Abbey Niezgoda, Bianca Pittaluga, John Quinones.
  • Sports Feature for “One Family’s Marathon” EIV News reporter Abbey Niezgoda follows two men as they prepare to run the 2010 Boston Marathon in honor of their father, a veteran who ran the “Boston Marathon” last year in Iraq.
  • Best Weather Coverage “EIV News Weather Watch”  EIV’s in-studio weather correspondents Nick Coit and Spencer Parente and Joe Hyer demonstrated excellent weather reporting and forecasting, with the help of weather reporter Grey VanDermark.

EIV Reporter Wins “Mark of Excellence” Awards

Congratulations to EIV News reporter Abbey Niezgoda for receiving two Region 1 Mark of Excellence awards from the Society of Professional Journalists.  Her pieces “The Heart of the Game” and “One Family’s Marathon” have received the awards in the Television  Sports Photography and Television Sports Reporting categories, respectively.

The awards will be presented to Abbey on April 8-9 in Providence, Rhode Island. At this time, it will be announces the placement of each award (first, second, or third place).  A first place award would advance the packages to the next round of competition at the national level.

UPDATE:

Abbey recieved first place in the SPJ Region 1 Mark of Excellence Awards for Sports Videography and Reporting caregory.  She is moving on the the national competition, and a place in the top three would allow her to accept in New Orleans this semester.

The 29th Annual EVVY Awards – Outstanding News Production

In the beautiful Cutler Majestic Theater in Downtown Boston, EIV News proudly accepts the 29th Annual EVVY award for Outstanding News Production. The EVVY Awards are an annual award show at Emerson College that recognize excellent student work. The episode that won the award aired on April 14, 2010 and can be viewed online. Here is the clip from the EVVY award broadcast where EIV News is recognized:
